Old Armenian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From մած-ան-իմ (mac-an-im, “to curdle, coagulate”) + -ուն (-un).[1][2][3] Typologically compare Persian ماست (mâst, “coagulated milk, yoghurt”) from ماسیدن (mâsidan, “to coagulate”), Turkish yoğurt from yoğurmak (“to plasticize, knead”).
