Armenian[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From գիր (gir, writing) +‎ -աբար (-abar, adverbial suffix), as opposed to աշխարհաբար (ašxarhabar), the vernacular language. The formerly common misconstruction գրաբառ (grabaṙ) is due to the influence of բառ (baṙ, word).
