1. (obsolete) short-term, soon, immediately, hastily, prematurely

   vay xổi ― to borrow money short-term, to borrow money for a short time

   ăn xổi ― (lit.) “to eat [freshly prepared foods; e.g. freshly salted vegetables] immediately” > (fig.) “to act rashly and hastily”

   Cà này ăn xổi được ― These [freshly salted] African eggplants are edible immediately.

   Thực hiện kế hoạch đó phải có thời gian, không nên ăn xổi. ― We need time to carry out that plan; we must not act rashly and hastily.

   ăn xổi ở thì ― (lit.) “to eat hastily and to dwell for the moment” > “to live for the moment, to live from day to day, to live by makeshifts”
