Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Vietic *c-naːs < *c-rn-aːs (an infixed form of *caːs (“to comb”), whence chải).
For the semantic relationship, compare Khmer សិត (sət, “to comb”) and ស្និត (snət, “classifier for hands of bananas”).
