Cinemantique Мадейра as a name of an island comes from Portuguese Madeira (rather than from Spanish); this name in turn comes from Portuguese madeira "wood", which comes directly from Latin māteria "matter, material", which is a derivative of māter "mother". The Spanish word madera "wood" is not anywhere in the chain of derivations, but it's a cognate to the Portuguese word, from the same Latin source. It's possible that Russian мадера was influenced by the Spanish word; I'm not sure. I'm not sure how to fix the etymology to indicate this, can you do it? Thanks!
